Triangle Turkey Trots 2025: Where to Run Before the Feast

There are two types of families on Thanksgiving morning: the ones sipping mimosas and the ones lacing up for a 5K. In our opinion, both are excellent ways to kick off the holiday—but if your traditions fall into the latter, this post is for you.

Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking for an excuse to enjoy that second slice of pie later, the Triangle has plenty of ways to move your feet before the feast.

Below, we’ve rounded up this year’s local Turkey Trots across Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and nearby towns, complete with dates, locations, and registration info.

Because nothing says “Thanksgiving spirit” quite like a little friendly competition.

Chapel Hill & Carrboro

Birds of a Feather Trail Trot

Location: 161 Salt Cedar Lane, Chapel Hill, NC

Date: Thursday, November 27, 2025

Distance: 2-Mile and 5K Trail Runs

A Briar Chapel favorite that winds through scenic trails with both timed and untimed options. Expect a friendly crowd, crisp fall air, and plenty of good vibes.

Gallop & Gorge 8K

Location: Carrboro, NC

Date: Thursday, November 27, 2025

Distance: 8K

A Carrboro tradition and part of the local race trifecta that includes the Carrboro 10K and Four on the Fourth. The course takes you through the heart of town with a mix of fun and challenge.

Durham

TROSA Turkey Trot

Distance: 5K

A community favorite that supports TROSA’s recovery programs. It’s a great way to start your holiday while giving back to a good cause.

Durham Academy Turkey Trot

Distance: 5K and Kids Fun Run

An early-season event perfect for families and casual runners. Proceeds benefit Durham Academy programs, and it’s a great way to warm up before the big holiday weekend.

Raleigh

Raleigh Turkey Trot

Location: Ridgewood Shopping Center, 3512 Wade Avenue, Raleigh, NC

Distance: 8K

One of Raleigh’s longest-running traditions and a favorite for families, friends, and first-timers. The course winds through Ridgewood’s charming neighborhood streets with plenty of energy along the way.

Trophy Trot 5K

Location: Dorothea Dix Park, 1251 Goode Street, Raleigh, NC

Distance: 5K

Hosted by NoG Run Club and Trophy Brewing, this race combines fitness with fun. Run first, then celebrate with skyline views and a post-race pint.

Turkey Chase

Location: William B. Umstead State Park, Raleigh, NC

Distance: 5K, 10K, 20K, and Kids Race

If you’re still feeling ambitious after Thanksgiving dinner, the Turkey Chase offers a beautiful wooded course through Umstead’s trails. It’s a great way to close out the holiday weekend.

Inside-Out Sports Turkey Trot

Distance: 8K, 1 Mile Walk, and Kids Dash

A long-standing Cary favorite that welcomes all ages and fitness levels. The vibe is relaxed, the crowd is local, and costumes are always encouraged.
